  • To develop a partnership with a horse clients need to control and modulate their behavior and develop self-control.

  • Due to their size horses can be very intimidating.  Developing a positive relationship with a horse can improve self-esteem, assist clients in overcoming fears and develop self confidence. 

  • Learning to trust a horse helps heal the wounds from trauma and/or abuse.

  • Horses are gentle and honest.

  • Horses remain in the present, In order to connect with a horse a client must also be in the present moment.

  • The act of grooming and caring for a horse helps client’s focus on something outside their own struggles.

  • Horses form strong attachments within their herd, including humans. 

  • Being around horses can reduce cortisol, the body’s stress hormone, increase oxytocin, a natural chemical that promotes feelings of positivity, as well as lower blood pressure.
